I am looking to buy a gps system for my car but i want to purchase it at the same place that it will be installed.
I would recommend that you use a removable device like Tom Tom or others. You can use your 12v outlet for power and you can use it outside the vehicle as well. Best Buy or Circuit City. The removable device is safer in the sense that you can remove it when not in use and less chance of getting it stolen.
Depending on your physical location, you may wish to look for authorized factory GPS dealers first in your area than look for a dealer that is also recommended by the factory for installation of GPS unit.
